What are the tough pieces?

In making this site, I really want to create content that will encourage people to take the necessary steps to get off their butts and make a website. I floundered for years working at agencies and as a freelancer before I finally just started making my own projects. However, once I did, I found several things happened.

  1. I got excited about the web again. It was so fun to build something that I got to control, versus what some client thought they wanted.
  2. I learned a TON. I learned what I didn’t know, and I learned about all the millions of tiny pieces that are easily overlooked or delegated to other people.
  3. I learned I should have done this years ago.
  4. I started making really good money, without needing a lot of expertise.

For a long time, it was easy to pass off not starting something because I wasn’t sure I could do it all. But now, in 2010, there are so many tools out there that can do almost all of the heavy lifting. Just being willing to get your hands dirty is often enough. You’ll at least be able to recognize what is worth doing the hard way or not, and what you can get away with at 90%.

At this point, I launch almost all of my sites at 90%. I get as close as I can with what I know. Then I launch. After that, I go and I see where the real pain points are, and if necessary, hire someone to help with those areas. However, by launching first, I often have income from the project to pay for the hired-out work, so my out-of-pocket expenses are kept really low.

SO. With all that said. What do you need from Subscription Tools? What content can I provide? What information can I give you? What inspiration are you lacking?

Let us know in the comments and we’ll see what we can do.

The WP-Chargify Plugin is the first tool we’re releasing. It is designed to allow WordPress users to use Chargify to manage their subscriptions and members. If you haven’t seen it already, Chargify is a great service that just kills it in terms of user experience, ease of use, reporting tools, and even an iPhone app so you can see how your site is doing on a day-to-day basis.

And WP-Chargify makes incorporating the Chargify service into WordPress dead simple.

We’ll be updating the support docs regularly, and will be making it even easier to install, but for now, feel free to download the plugin and give it a shot.

Download the WP-Chargify plugin here.

Hello folks. Welcome to Subscription Tools. We’re a site dedicated to providing tools, information, and training on running paid-subscription and paid-membership websites.

We started our own paid-membership site last year, and recognized a huge vacuum in resources and community for this area of the web, so we decided we could help.

Our goal is to provide complete training on how to get your own site up and running, and even give away tools that will help you along the way.

Our first tool, WP-Chargify, is a WordPress plugin to work with the billing system Chargify. We’ll have lots more coming soon, so stay tuned.
